How to Avoid FRIZZY SUMMER HAIR

Welcome to the Salon M Blogs!

We are so excited to start sharing some of our tips, tricks, and general knowledge with our clients and friends. There are so many topics I would love to go into depth with you about when you visit me for your appointment but, since we need to keep our appointments on track and get you in and out of the salon, I figured I’d give you some extra time outside of the salon.

Your trusted staff at Salon and will be taking turns talking about their field of expertise, would love to hear from you guys on what topics are super important to you. For anyone who doesn’t know me, I am Francine M., the owner of Salon M. I’ll be kicking off this blog today with a topic near and dear to my heart...

FRIZZY SUMMER HAIR

I literally feel like the humidity and the barometric pressure rule my entire life. I had to decide on any given day whether I’m allowed to step outside or if I did, I would end up looking like a yeti. I for one am sick of it. Lucky for us, science has advanced immeasurably over the last 10 years. We have many different options to eliminate control smooth or enhance the curl in our hair. I’m gonna break it down for you.

The first and easiest option is embracing the curl with the right product and the correct technique. You should be able to enhance your curl and not let the weather affect you at all. Unfortunately, everybody’s curly hair is so different that you need to do a little experimenting with different products recommended by your stylist to see which product is the right fit for you. I, myself have to combine two products together in order to get the curl that I am looking for. I have to use a diffuser to set the curl in place and lock in some shine and volume. Always ask your stylist at your appointment to show you how to use your diffuser and how to apply your products. if you bought a new camera and no one gave you the instructions. You would never be able to take a new picture so why should this be any different?

The second option would be a keratin-smoothing treatment. There are many options out there so start doing your research. Traditional, low formaldehyde, no formaldehyde. The manufacturers' choices are endless and Salon M has tried a lot of them. I generally use myself as the human Guinea pig. I have been pin straight, sorta straight, and “not so” straight. Again, defer to your trusted stylist for advice on which is the best option for you. All of these options will require you to use a specific shampoo and conditioner to maintain your look and prolong the life of your service.

The third option would be a traditional relaxer or a hybrid relaxer. A permanent relaxer changes the actual structure of the hair bonds permanently. It needs to grow out as opposed to “wash away”, so as your roots grow in there is a definable line of demarcation. The hybrid relaxers temporarily change the structure of the hair bond, so eventually, it washes away and grows out all at the same time. A permanent relaxer can leave the hair dry and damaged and there is some research pointing to health risks involved. After recent information has emerged, Salon M has removed this option from our menu. As always, having an in-depth consultation with your trusted stylist is your best way to have the hair you enjoy all year long.

At Salon M, we are constantly doing research, bringing in new products, and testing them on ourselves to bring our beloved clients the best services in the industry.
